CITIZENS WARNED OF JURY DUTY SCAM
RIVERSIDE COUNTY:
The court has received recent reports that members of the public have been contacted by individuals claiming to be with the Riverside Superior Court or Riverside Sheriff’s Office asking for personal identifying information by phone or in person. This includes calls where the caller claims to be a “court or sheriff’s department employee” and demands payment (via a Greet Dot or pre-paid credit card transaction) to clear up an outstanding warrant for failure to perform jury duty or be held in contempt of court. In one instance the caller asked to meet the individual at the courthouse in order to collect the fine.
Please be aware that these calls are fraudulent. They have no connection with the Riverside Superior Court or Riverside Sheriff’s Office. No court or sheriff’s employee will ever contact a member of the public and ask for personal or financial information (such as social security number, date of birth, or credit card number) in lieu of attending jury duty, or to make up for failure to attend jury duty.
If you receive a phone call from someone demanding payment for an outstanding warrant for jury service, immediately contact your local police department to report the incident as a crime.
When searching for that Desert Paradise Home in the Palm
Springs area be sure to research communities Home Owners Association
(HOA) costs.
There are an abundance of communities that offer gated and guarded
security, wonderful area landscaping, fitness centers and more, that
come with a cost. Typically these costs are incorporated into the HOA
fees. Fees can run from below $100.00 per month to over $1,000.00 per
month.
The Palm Springs area or Coachella Valley includes several towns and cities: Palm Springs, Palm Desert, Indian Wells, Rancho Mirage, La Quinta, Indio, Bermuda Dunes and Cathedral City.
These towns and cities have over 100 communities that offer a wide
range of amenities with Home Owners Associations. Many communities have
golf courses however those costs are generally separate from the HOA.
Some communities have country clubs with private golf courses and
others have public golf courses. Those cost vary greatly as well. Its not
just the price of the home, taxes and insurance to consider. The HOA
can also be a significant cost.
One Neighborhood that is a great value is Del Webb's Sun City Shadow
Hills in Indio, CA. The HOA's are $217.00 per month. Includes 2 club
houses each with fitness centers, pools, tennis courts, cafe's, locker
rooms and more. In addition there are two public golf courses, one 18
hole par 72 championship and an 18 hole par 54 course. There are also
over 50 activity/hobby clubs.
